Women Owned and Operated

In 1955, Mrs. Helen E. Haugsten, following the death of her husband Mr. Harry G Haugsten (one of the Daily Journal of Commerce’s founders), is elected President and Publisher of the Daily Journal of Commerce.

In 1971, Dorothy “Dodie” Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Haugsten becomes Publisher of the Daily Journal of Commerce, as well as Secretary & Treasurer, following the death of her mother. Dorothy’s husband, Mr. Lawrence “Smitty” Smith, became President concurrently.
